Is there Anatomy software that is exact representation of human body, like let's say virtual reality tour inside human body from head to foot, detailing all organs even small, covering all systems, nervous, blood vessels, muscular, skeleton systems, could be zoomed even to deepest skin layers, neurons, that can be applied unapplied like layers in Photoshop? If this does not exist, then which is the most advanced human Anatomy software?

My favorite is this one and it is quite detailed and interactive. It does not use virtual reality technology, but it is a good resource for anatomy students. Then there is this one, but it is more virtually animated and less real. Hope this helps!

Anatomy: A brief introduction

Anatomy is the identification and description of the structures of living things. It is a branch of biology and medicine.

The study of anatomy dates back more than 2,000 years , to the Ancient Greeks. There are three broad areas:

Human anatomy is the study of the structures of the human body. An understanding of anatomy is key to the practice of medicine and other areas of health.

The word “anatomy” comes from the Greek words “ana,” meaning “up,” and “tome,” meaning “a cutting.” Traditionally, studies of anatomy have involved cutting up, or dissecting, organisms.

Now, however, imaging technology can show us much about how the inside of a body works, reducing the need for dissection.

Below, learn about the two main approaches: microscopic anatomy and gross, or macroscopic, anatomy.

In medicine, gross, macro, or topographical anatomy refers to the study of the biological structures that the eye can see. In other words, a person does not need a microscope to see these features.

The study of gross anatomy may involve dissection or noninvasive methods. The aim is to collect data about the larger structures of organs and organ systems.

In dissection, a scientist cuts open an organism — a plant or the body of a human or another animal — and examines what they discover inside.

Endoscopy is a tool for diagnosing illness, but it can also play a role in research . It involves a scientist or doctor inserting a long, thin tube with a camera at the end into different parts of the body. By passing it through the mouth or rectum, for example, they can examine the inside of the gastrointestinal tract.

There are also less invasive methods of investigation. For example, to study the blood vessels of living animals or humans, a scientist or doctor may inject an opaque dye, then use imaging technology, such as angiography, to see the vessels that contain the dye. This reveals how the circulatory system is working and whether there are any blockages.

MRI scans, CT scans, PET scans, X-rays, ultrasounds, and other types of imaging can also show what is happening inside a living body.

Medical and dental students also perform dissection as part of their practical work during their studies. They may dissect human corpses.

Levels of Structural Organization in the human body

The human body has 6 main levels of structural organization. We will begin this lesson with the simplest level within the structural hierarchy.

Chemical level– is the simplest level within the structural hierarchy. The chemical level includes the tiniest building blocks of matter, atoms, which combine to form molecules, like water. In turn, molecules combine to form organelles, the internal organs of a cell.

Cellular level– the cellular level is made up of the smallest unit of living matter, the cell. Individual cells may have some common functions but vary widely in size and shape. Each type of cells carries out a set of unique tasks within the human body.

Tissue level– Tissues are groups of similar cells that have a common function. A tissue must contain two different types of cells. The four basic tissue types in humans include epithelium, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue. Each tissue has a characteristic role within the human body which we will discuss later.

Organ level– an organ is a structure composed of at least two different tissue types that perform a specific function within the body. Examples include the brain, stomach, and liver. Complex functions begin to emerge at this level.

Levels of structural organization that make up the human body.

Organ system level– One or more organs work in unison to accomplish a common purpose. For instance, the heart and blood vessels work together and circulate blood throughout the body to provide oxygen and nutrients to cells. Besides the cardiovascular system, the other organ systems of the body are the integumentary, skeletal, nervous, muscular, endocrine, respiratory, lymphatic, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems.

Organismal level– The organismal level is the highest level of organization. It is the sum total of all structural levels working together. In short, it is the human being (or organism) as a whole.

Anatomical Regions and Radiology

Radiology offers a non-destructive and non-invasive method of testing the body to detect the smallest deviation from normal anatomy conditions.

In clinical settings, radiology and medical imaging give physicians a way to inspect the human body more accurately and identify causes of discomfort, disease, or death.

Different medical imaging methods or tests are used to visualize the inner body structures.

Some of the most frequently used radiology imaging modalities or forms are X-rays, computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, ultrasonography (U/S), and nuclear imaging scans (5) .

Head and Neck

The head and neck region includes all anatomical structures from the neck upwards. This region includes the neck, oral cavity (mouth), nose, eyes, ears, and skull.

Examples of radiology imaging tests for the head and neck regions are head CT scans and neck CT scans. These imaging procedures may be used to check for bleeding, blood clots, or skull fractures (6) .

Head MRIs are commonly used to help diagnose stroke, brain tumors, and hydrocephalus (build-up of fluid in the brain cavities) (7) .


The thorax region refers to the trunk or chest area. Chest X-rays are common medical imaging tests (8) . Patients with breathing issues and chest pains or injuries may be advised to get chest X-rays.

Chest CT scans are also common chest imaging exams used to check the size and diameter of different organs (9) .

Abdomen and Pelvis

The abdomen and pelvis regions are often grouped together in radiology and medical imaging tests.

A commonly conducted imaging test on the abdomen and pelvis region is the abdominopelvic CT (10) . Doctors often perform a combined PET/CT scan to diagnose or evaluate cancers in the abdominopelvic region (11) .

Positron emission tomography (PET) scan is a nuclear imaging technique (12) .

Upper Extremities

The upper extremities region starts from the shoulders. Other main parts of the upper extremity anatomy are the arms, elbows, forearms, and hands. The upper extremity is also referred to as the upper limb.

MRIs, such as shoulder and wrist MRIs, are the usual imaging method of choice for examining joints (13) .

X-rays of the arms, forearms, and hands may be recommended to check for bone injuries, such as broken bones and fractures, or to check for bone development in children (14) .

Lower Extremities

The lower extremities are also called the lower limb. This anatomical region may be divided into several parts: hip, thigh, knee, leg, ankle, and foot.

MRI scans are often conducted on joints in the lower extremities, similar to the upper extremity. Knee MRIs are the most commonly ordered medical imaging exams for the musculoskeletal system (15) .

X-rays may also be ordered to help assess bone injuries in the legs, knee, and ankle.

Another imaging procedure that may be conducted on the lower extremity region is a venous ultrasound. This procedure is often done to check for deep vein thrombosis or blood clots in leg veins (16) .

Correct understanding of the human anatomy and proper interpretation of radiological imaging results are vital for detecting diseases and maintaining optimal health.

Imaging Atlas of Human Anatomy

I am using this book for by Image-based Anatomy class and I must say I would not be able to survive the class without it. The picture sequence is very clear and the writer provides appropriate number of images for each scan plane. The information given is accurate. Sometimes, looking at sequences of picture gives you a much better learning experience than looking at a real moving sequence MRI/CT since you actually have a chance to digest information and observe every detail of the picture.

Some cons: I would appreciate a more detailed labeling for the pelvis and the lower limb part. Sometimes, the labeling is inconsistent. I would prefer the author using femoral head through the book instead of switching back and forth between head of femur and femoral head, for example. (I can't recall specific examples right now, but there are such inconsistencies in the book, which is really minor and does not obstruct your understanding at all.)

Overall, a great book that I would recommend to anyone who is studying medical imaging.

The information is provided through text, charts, photos, and graphics that involve the reader with the human body in an interactive way. This children’s book is a perfect summary of the human body and scientific knowledge.

One literary element that is apparent in this book is the scientific point of view because the point of this book is to inform the reader about things they do not know about the body. The major feature that stands out in this book however is not the text, while important, the photos are what add further understanding and visualization of the text for the reader to fully conceptualize all the ideas. This book is wonderful broad overview of the human body for kids to learn about and reference. The pictures are my favorite part of this book.

Several publically-accessible websites host videos uploaded by contributors throughout the world. The use of multiple omics techniques (i.e., genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenomics, and single-cell omics) is becoming increasingly popular in plant sciences as sequencing cost drops and expertise rises. As a result, sequencing and resequencing information that is generated for several crops enabled the identification of novel alleles from diverse sources irrespective of the availability of the genome sequence. Furthermore, rapid advances in omics technologies provide an opportunity to generate new and informative datasets in different plant species. Integration of these genomes and functional omics data with genetic and phenotypic information in an efficient manner would lead to the identification of genes and pathways responsible for important agronomic traits. On the other hand, the huge amount of data generated on the functional components of the cell are still underutilized even in a model crop like rice (Muthuramalingam et al., 2019 ). Moreover, the growth and productivity of crops in the field conditions are hindered not by individual stress but a combinatorial effect of multiple stresses, both biotic and abiotic. Hence, there is an urgent need to direct future research toward the discovery of key players, molecular networks, and models that could unravel the complex cellular and molecular functions to enhance agronomic traits in crops. In this regard, systems biology offers huge potential in crop research to revolutionize our understanding on how plants respond to growth and environmental constraints (Muthuramalingam et al., 2019 ).

Systems biology and integrating omics approach provides a more inclusive molecular perspective of plant biology than individual approaches. However, the integrated approach of multiple omics platforms remains an ongoing challenge because of their inherent data differences. The collection of accurate multiomics data on different molecular and functional components is most critical to systems modeling and prediction, for which there are no standard protocols shared among the global community (Kim & Tagkopoulos, 2018 Macklin, 2019 ). In addition, model-based integration is often restricted to well-defined model organisms (Pinu et al., 2019 ). Constant evolution of databases and data analysis tools would help meaningful biological interpretation of multiomics data. Various technical challenges during experimentation, data generation, integrations, handling, sharing, and interpretation are comprehensively described in Misra et al. ( 2019 ) and Macklin ( 2019 ). Hence, it is high time to form a highly connected community for plant systems biology research, instead of isolated efforts, and to develop and share resources, databases, and software tools. This is even more crucial because of the urgency to double crop yields by 2050 under uncertain climate scenarios.

We have numerous excellent physiology books that are adopted by universities around the world, however, the new seventh edition of Physiology of Sport and Exercise, 7th Edition is currently the most adopted. 4. Science and Application of High-Intensity Interval Training

This book was published in 2019 and was an instant success. Adopted by Universities all over the world it also became a must-have resource for any S&C coach. This title is also popular with individuals who are fitness enthusiasts.

The popularity of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), which consists primarily of repeated bursts of high-intensity exercise, continues to soar because its effectiveness and efficiency have been proven in use by both elite athletes and general fitness enthusiasts. Surprisingly, few resources have attempted to explain both the science behind the HIIT movement and its sport-specific application to athlete training. The authors

Authors Paul Laursen and Martin Buchheit are legends in the industry. They are expert-level HIIT researchers as well as practitioners.

Paul Laursen, PhD, is an endurance coach, a sport scientist, and an adjunct professor for Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand. He earned his doctorate in exercise physiology from the University of Queensland, was formerly the physiology manager for High-Performance Sport New Zealand.

Dr Laursen has published more than 125 peer-reviewed manuscripts in exercise and sport science journals his publications with coauthor Martin Buchheit are among the most cited in the world.

Martin Buchheit, PhD, is a sport scientist, a strength and conditioning coach and the head of performance for Paris Saint-Germain Football Club. He is also an adjunct associate professor of exercise science for Victoria University in Australia. He previously worked as an exercise physiologist for ASPIRE Academy in Qatar.

Buchheit received his doctorate in physiology from the University of Strasbourg in France. He has published more than 160 peer-reviewed manuscripts, with much of his research focusing on high-intensity interval training. The training tools he has developed include the widely used 30-15 intermittent fitness test and the 5-5 running test.

Duncan French – Currently the Vice President of Performance, UFC. Previously, worked on three Olympic cycles for Team GB as the lead for S&C at the English Institute of Sport. Also, previously worked as Head of S&C at Newcastle United FC.

Dave Hamilton – Former Head of S&C for the medal-winning Team GB women’s Field Hockey team. Current Assistant Athletic Director for Applied Health and Performance Science at Pennsylvania State University.

Another book in its 7th edition, so you know it’s doing something right. This book is used by a huge variety of universities for a variety of courses. The book is for upper-undergraduate or graduate students studying physical activity, exercise/sport science, fitness, strength and conditioning, physiotherapy or rehabilitation. This text is also regularly bought by professionals working in those areas. The author

Brad Schoenfeld, PhD, is widely regarded as one of the leading authorities in the fitness industry and has appeared in numerous publications from Cosmopolitan to The New York Times to Musclemag. He is currently a columnist for Muscular Development Magazine and serves as a regular fitness expert for numerous popular websites such as t-nation. Schoenfeld has published over 100 peer-reviewed research articles on exercise and sports nutrition, many in high impact factor journals, as well as several textbook chapters. He acts as the Assistant Editor-in-Chief for the NSCA’s Strength and Conditioning Journal, as well as serving on the editorial advisory board for the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition and the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. He is also the author of The M.A.X. Muscle Plan, Women’s Home Workout Bible and Strong & Sculpted.

7. Motor Learning and Performance

An accessible and easily understandable academic text. Constructing an easy-to-understand conceptual model of motor performance along the way, this text outlines the principles of motor skill learning. It builds a strong understanding of how skills are acquired and perfected with practice and shows students how to apply the concepts to a variety of real-world settings. Incorporating familiar scenarios brings the material to life. The book covers coordination, the timing of movements and describes how expertise is gained. The authors

Richard A. Schmidt, PhD and Timothy D. Lee, PhD are incredibly experienced and proven scientists and have worked together on this textbook. Known as one of the leaders in research on motor behaviour, Dr Schmidt has more than 35 years of experience in this area and has been published widely. The originator of schema theory, Schmidt founded the Journal of Motor Behavior in 1969 and was the editor for 11 years. He authored the first edition of Motor Control and Learning in 1982.

Dr Schmidt has authored every Motor Learning and Performance book since the first edition in 1991. Schmidt received an honorary doctorate from Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, in recognition of his work. He is a member of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (NASPSPA), where he served as president in 1982 and received the organisation’s two highest honors: the Distinguished Scholar Award for lifetime contributions to research in motor control and learning (in 1992) and the President’s Award for significant contributions to the development and growth of NASPSPA (in 2013).

Timothy Lee has published extensively in motor behaviour and psychology journals since 1979. More recently, he has contributed as an editor to both Journal of Motor Behavior and Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport and as an editorial board member for Psychological Review. In 1980 Lee received the inaugural Young Scientist Award from SCAPPS and in 2011 he was named a fellow of the society—its highest honour. Then in 1991-92 he received a senior research fellowship from the Dienst Onderzoekscoordinatie, Catholic University in Leuven, Belgium. In 2005 he presented a prestigious senior scientist lecture at NASPSPA.

8. Research Methods in Biomechanics

Biomechanics is a subject area in which Human Kinetics has a number of excellent books. Research Methods in Biomechanics, 2nd Edition is the most adopted. This textbook demonstrates the range of available research techniques and how to best apply this knowledge to ensure valid data collection. In the highly technical field of biomechanics, research methods are frequently upgraded as the speed and sophistication of software and hardware technologies increase. As a result, the second edition includes new information detailing advanced analytical tools for investigating human movement.

The authors

With five authors and nine contributors, you can be sure this book has a variety of experts from the field of research and biomechanics. The authors are D. Gordon E. Robertson, PhD, Graham E. Caldwell, PhD, Joseph Hamill, PhD and Gary Kamen, PhD Robertson is an emeritus professor and a fellow of the Canadian Society for Biomechanics, wrote Introduction to Biomechanics for Human Motion Analysis. He conducts research on human locomotion and athletic activities and authors the analogue data analysis software BioProc3. Caldwell, an associate professor and a fellow of the Canadian Society for Biomechanics. He has won the Canadian Society for Biomechanics New Investigator Award and in 1998 won the Outstanding Teacher Award for the School of Public Health and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts. He served as an associate editor for Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise. Hamill is a professor and fellow of the Research Consortium, International Society of Biomechanics in Sports, Canadian Society for Biomechanics, American College of Sports Medicine and National Academy of Kinesiology. He coauthored the popular undergraduate textbook Biomechanical Basis of Human Movement. He teaches across the globe including at the University of Massachusetts, USA and is an adjunct professor at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and the University of Limerick, Ireland and a distinguished research professor at Republic Polytechnic, Singapore. Kamen is a professor and fellow of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education and Recreation and Dance (AAPHERD) and the American College of Sports Medicine. He authored an undergraduate textbook on kinesiology, Foundations of Exercise Science, as well as a primer on electromyography, Essentials of Electromyography. He was president of the Research Consortium of AAPHERD. Whittlesey is a self-employed technology consultant specialising in athletic training (physiotherapy), sporting goods and clinical applications. The nine additional contributors include some of the best biomechanists and statistical researchers from around the world.

9. Sport Nutrition

A staple for academic sports nutrition courses. Sport Nutrition, 3rd Edition presents the principles, background and rationale for current nutrition guidelines specifically for athletes. Using a physiological basis, this text provides an in-depth look at the science behind sport nutrition. Students will come away with a comprehensive understanding of nutrition as it relates to sport and the influence of nutrition on exercise performance, training and recovery. The authors

Undoubtedly two of the best sports nutritionists have come together to create this highly adopted textbook. Asker Jeukendrup, PhD and Michael Gleeson, PhD are both British researchers but huge global names. Jeukendrup is an active researcher credited with many of the new findings in sport nutrition in the past decade. He is a registered sport and exercise nutritionist and a professor of exercise metabolism. Professor Jeukendrup is in high demand from elite athletes and clubs around the world. He has worked with the professional cycling team Rabobank, Chelsea Football Club, UK Athletics, the British Olympic Association, many African endurance runners and several Olympic and world champions. Jeukendrup himself is a more than competent endurance athlete, he has completed multiple Ironman events. He is also popular on social media. You may have even seen some of his infographics on Twitter.

Gleeson has published extensively in scientific and medical journals. He has a particular interest and expertise in the effects of exercise, training and nutrition on immune function and has been both vice president and president of the International Society of Exercise and Immunology. Currently teaching at Loughborough University he has worked with numerous world-class athletes and professional football clubs.

10. Periodization

The authors

This is G. Gregory Haff’s 2nd appearance on this list as he is also the author of Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning 4th edition. Haff teamed up with Tudor O. Bompa, PhD, who is recognised as the world’s foremost expert on periodization training. He developed the concept of periodization of strength in Romania in 1963 as he helped the Eastern Bloc countries rise to dominance in the athletic world. Since then, Bompa has used his system in training 11 Olympic and world championship medalists and elite athletes around the world. He has made presentations on periodization training in more than 30 countries. His publications, conferences and ideas are highly regarded and sought out by many top professional athletes and coaches.
